Root canal treatment may be performed when the pulp tissue inside a tooth has been
affected by deep decay, trauma, cracks or infection. During the procedure, the root canals
are cleaned, shaped and sealed with appropriate filling materials. The objective is to
preserve the natural tooth whenever clinically possible. In some cases, a filling or crown may
be recommended afterwards to improve structural support. Suitability and the number of
appointments are determined following a clinical and radiographic examination.
