Dental veneers are thin porcelain, or in selected cases composite, restorations bonded mainly to the outer surfaces of front teeth. They may be considered for discolouration, minor fractures, wear, limited gaps and differences in tooth shape. Before treatment, gum health, enamel thickness, bite relationships and teeth-grinding habits are assessed. Porcelain veneers are produced in a laboratory using impressions or digital scans, while composite veneers can be shaped directly on the teeth. The amount of tooth preparation varies from case to case, and minimal preparation may be sufficient in some situations. Suitability and material choice are determined after a clinical examination.
